The Excess team, constantly in search of innovation and eco-responsible solutions was delighted to present to you at the 2022 International Multihull Show an ecological alternative of cork decking on the Excess 12. A proposal that is currently being researched.
A bit of information on this innovation!
Why could cork be a new decking solution on board Excess catamarans?
First of all, cork is a great non-skid material combining comfort under foot and safety when under way, whatever the weather!
It also brings an unequalled thermal comfort, so not burning your feet, despite sunlight exposure, and adds to the insulation of the boat thanks to its very low coefficient of thermal conductivity.
It is also a natural phonic insulator since it is anti-vibration, allowing for exceptional acoustic performance as it is great at absorbing sound.
Cork is also: a lightweight solution, being only half the weight of hardwoods or synthetic materials - a responsible solution thanks to the cork oak bark which is harvested every 9 years, and which renews itself naturally without cutting down any trees.
But cork decking is also a local solution! It comes from bark cultivated on the shores of the Western Mediterranean and processed in France.
All this with a proven durability: a very strong resistance to impact, an ability to regain its original shape after a long period of crushing, an absence of cracking, a resistance to abrasion ... Cork is a safe bet! If the decking turns grey with time, simply sanding it will return it to its original brown!
Do you want to discover this cork decking for yourself? Don’t hesitate to come and see us at a forthcoming boat show!
